About VPN.ht
VPN.ht is one of the Hong Kong based VPN providers released in 2014 by Wicked Technology Limited. At the time of their launching, VPN.ht partnered with the Popcorn Time BitTorrent platform but their partnership didn’t last long and it discontinued some time ago.
Like any other VPN provider, in our VPN.ht review also we found the same claims that their software offers complete anonymity on the Internet, which is even illustrated using some of the guides. Let’s take a look at it to know whether VPN.ht stays true to its words or not.

Pricing Structure – How Much Does VPN.ht Cost?
VPN.ht is one of the affordable VPNs, which comes with two different subscription plans, monthly and annual. It provides a special promotional offer for the monthly plan’s first billing cycle.
If you are a first time user and you go for the 1 Month subscription plan, at first, it will charge you only $1.00. And from next month onwards, it will cost about $4.99 every month, making it $59.88 for the whole year. On the other hand, if you select an annual subscription plan, you will be billed $39.99 every year, making it only $3.99 per month, which is even lesser than the monthly subscription. Moreover, both the plans provide a 30-day money-back guarantee for first time users and both of them offer the same services and features.
Speed & Performance – How Fast Is VPN.ht?
VPNs slow down the speed. But how much is the main question? Some VPNs slow down the internet speed at such a level that browsing the Internet for regular activities becomes next to impossible and some slow down the speed at such a small extent that the users won’t even be able to notice it.
In our VPN.ht review, we carried out some speed tests using different servers from the USA and Europe. And we would rate it as manageable, which can let VPN.ht come in the pro column.
Server | Ping | Download | Upload |
---|---|---|---|
The United States | 123ms | 28.73 Mbps | 12.33 Mbps |
Europe | 39ms | 88.93 Mbps | 43.84 Mbps |
Though EU speed was well accepted and it was within the range like any other good VPN, the US server was a little slower compared to the EU server.
Where Are VPN.ht Servers Located?
In our VPN.ht review, we noticed one thing that VPN.ht has a smaller number of servers compared to other top providers like NordVPN or ExpressVPN. It has only 128 servers in 24 countries. It’s something that we didn’t like as other VPNs provide ten times more than that.
Australia
Brazil
Canada
Denmark
France
Germany
Hong kong
India
Italy
Japan
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Mexico
South korea
Norway
New Zealand
Romania
Sweden
Singapore
South africa
Moreover, with such a small number of servers, we thought that there might be some dysfunctional servers. But we’re glad to say that it didn’t turn out in that way. VPN.ht was working smoothly and it was very much alive.
How Is the Customer Support Service of VPN.ht?
We’re happy to say that, while doing VPN.ht review, we thought that the response time might be slow or our query altogether won’t be solved, as there’s no chat support. But the opposite happened. We contacted their support team by generating a ticket and within a day, we got a reply.
Their support ticket option is entirely hidden in the knowledgebase page. So, it’s something the users must pay attention to or else they might miss it. But once you click through it and select the department you want to contact, it will get easier. Moreover, they also provide an FAQ section and knowledgebase articles. However, there are not many FAQ’s answered or articles provided and it needs some work.

Does VPNSTORE.com Recommend VPN.ht?
Though it provides many features, for example, no-logging policy, torrent/P2P friendly, and Netflix on almost all its servers, it does have certain drawbacks that must not be ignored.
Firstly, it does not offer kill switch protection, which is provided like a primary feature. More to add, it couldn’t pass the VirusTotal scan and showed that it has an adware virus attached, and it even cannot pass the IP leaks. These are some of the issues that must not be ignored at any cost. Lastly, it comes under the jurisdiction of Hong Kong, which follows the laws of China and it’s questionable for the VPN business. All we can say is that there are much better VPN providers you can look into. We may not recommend VPN.ht unless is works on the IP leaks and adware virus issue.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does VPN.ht come with a built-in Anti Malware tool?
No, VPN.ht doesn’t come with any built-in Anti Malware tool.

Hong Kong Jurisdiction – Free from 14 Eyes Alliance
If you look from outside, you’ll think that VPN.ht is based in Hong Kong, which is free from 14 Eyes Alliance. So, it’s good news, which is true because none of the alliances can do anything with VPN.ht to get information. But, there’s one issue. Hong Kong still has to follow the rules and regulations of China.
Though VPN itself is not illegal in China, VPN providers need the government’s approval before doing the VPN business and often they demand backdoor access. And due to this, the whole point of using a VPN becomes a question, and unfortunately, VPN.ht can be a victim of the government in this way.
Does VPN.ht work with Netflix?
Yes, VPN.ht works with Netflix and more to add, it’s one of the few VPNs whose every server unblocks Netflix. Can I Install VPN.ht on My Router?
Yes, VPN.ht supports some of the routers such as Tomato, ASUS, and DD-WRT. They have also provided an instructional guide in the knowledgebase section to set up and configure routers with VPN.ht.
